Gathered Manor's Plate Wall Guide

A plate wall is an excellent addition to any space. Whether you’re adding plates around a mirror or creating visual interest on a plain wall, you can’t go wrong. It’s a beautiful way to showcase your favorite collection!

My best tips and tricks for achieving the perfect plate wall:

1. Layout Your Design. Start by finding a roomy space in your home (a living room rug works great) and experiment with your plate wall layout. This step allows you to visualize the design and make adjustments, like swapping out plates, before committing to a final arrangement. If you are looking for layout inspiration, I love this guide by House of Gossamer.

2. Trace It Out. Once you’re happy with the layout, grab some Kraft paper and trace your plates. Cut out these templates and use a wall-friendly tape (like painter’s tape) to arrange them in your desired space. This method lets you experiment with placement and spacing without damaging your walls. Pro Tip: If you don’t have Kraft paper, large yard bags work just as well!

3. Attach Plates to Hangers. Secure your plates to their hangers before you start hanging them. This way, you’re ready to go once the hooks are in place, avoiding interruptions mid-project. When choosing hangers, I recommend traditional gold hangers that grip the plate securely over the edge. They offer more reliability than stick-on hangers, which can sometimes fail.

4. Measure and Hang Hooks. Begin by measuring and placing the center plate of your layout, then work outward. Use painter’s tape on the wall to mark your measurements—it’s easy to write on and won’t damage your walls. For hooks, 3M Claw hooks are my go-to choice. They’re easy to install and leave minimal marks if you need to adjust placement.

5. Enjoy! Take a step back and enjoy your plate wall!
